Sick
Well, as you can probably tell I never did get around to posting more the night of the storm.
The electric went off and was out until late the next day.
I finally got in for my dental surgery last wednesday, what a pain in the arse!!
they told me to be at the hospital at 11:00 am, so my step-dad, Dave, took me.
Now, Dave teaches at a couple of local universities, and he had a class to teach at 5:00 that day.
The hospital was about an hour away from our home, and where he had to teach that day was also about an hour from home.
We arrived at 10:45, and the paperwork was done by 11:00, so we waited...and waited..
Finally after waiting over 2 hours(!!) I told the nurse that if they didn't get started soon I would have to re-schedule.
An hour later I told them that we were pressed for time, and if they didn't get me to surgery I would have to re-schedule and would file a complaint.
The nurse then told me that the doctor was "a little behind" and that my surgery had been scheduled for 12:45. That if I had any problems they could re-schedule me for next week..
At that point I let her know that I was supposed to be scheduled for emergancy surgery, at which point she told me that my surgery was NOT emergancy, and that tooth removals were all "elective" surgery.
There I was, the whole right side of my head swollen with infection, running a fever, and in misery despite all the pain meds I was full of and this nurse was telling me off!!
At that point Dave was standing beside me and let her know that he had to teach in a few hours and they needed to get me in so that it could be done, and that it WAS INDEED an emergancy surgery according to my doctor and dentist!!
Finally, about 2:30 they took me back to be prepped for surgery.
They followed the usual prociedure of installing a port in one of my veins and starting an IV with saline and anti-biotics. However I overheard them saying that my anti-biotics hadn't been hooked up right and that most of it had ran out on the floor instead of going through the IV .
OOPS!!
It took them about another 45 minutes to get around to getting me into surgery and sedating me.
I woke up a bit later, in the recovery room, and they hustled me out as soon as they figured they could, and we went home.
They ended up taking 4 of my teeth, OUCH!!
Now it is a week later and I am STILL sick.
When they put the tube down my throat they tore it up. I have had burning in my throat since, as well as finding out that they had cut the underside of my tounge and my uvala.
The infection contuned to get worse for several days, but it is finally starting to improve.
I am going to contact my Doctor tommorow to see if she can give me another course of anti-biotics, which will (hopefully) clear up the rest of the infection .
The infection seems to be anti-biotic resistant, as I have already been through 4 differant courses of anti-biotics and it still hasn't cleared up. (Not including the partial bag given to me through the IV before surgery.)
Today has been the first day since the operation that I have been awake for more than a couple of hours at a time, but I am still sleeping most of the time.
Well, I'm going to call it a night.
I'll post more when I get feeling better.
